ICDL at a Glance

The International Computer Driving Licence^®, or ICDL^®, is an internationally recognised ICT qualification that promotes digital literacy by enabling people to demonstrate their skills in practical day-to-day computer applications. It covers a series of IT certifications with an aim to promote digital education and to foster the development of the Information Society.

The ICDL programme is administered and managed by the European Computer Driving Licence Foundation (ECDL Foundation or ECDL-F, www.ecdl.org). ICDL is now available in 150 countries, testing in 40 languages and has certified more than 9 million candidates around the globe. ICDL is endorsed by various global organisations such as the United Nations, the European Union and multi-national corporations such as British Petroleum, Nokia, and many others.

Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of European Commission, has recently received the 9 millionth ICDL Skills Card at a ceremony highlighting both the success of the ICDL programme and the necessity of constant investment in digital education to increase employability and build a competitive European economy.
